Flexible PTO & Holidays
Flexible PTO
Policy scope & purpose
Our company paid time off (PTO) policy includes sick days, vacation days, and personal/mental health days and applies to Samsara’s full time U.S. employees. We encourage you to maintain a positive life-work balance, taking regular and sufficient time to refresh as-needed, and sharing your travel experiences with co-workers. While there is no specified limit on the amount of vacation you can take, taking a week off per quarter is generally acceptable, provided that you follow these policy guidelines and manage your work responsibilities appropriately.
Policy Guidelines
Time off must be requested and approved by your manager before finalizing your plans including purchasing travel.
Time off should generally be requested and approved as PTO in Workday at least two weeks in advance to allow for sufficient coverage plans, where possible.
Consecutive time off should not exceed 3 weeks.
Time off requests longer than 2 weeks require VP approval.
When requesting time off, please be mindful of your department’s specific PTO guidelines, coverage needs and historically busy periods. Once you have approval for PTO, please notify your team members and update your calendar to reflect any days you are scheduled to be away from work. Please note that vacation time at Samsara does not accrue and therefore cannot be paid out upon completion of your employment.
Employees should contact peopleops@samsara.com for information or questions on this policy. Please remember that this policy is separate from policies for leaves of absence for any of the following reasons, exceeding 7 calendar days, which you can review here. Please note that your department may also have separate policies addressing leaves of absence.
Medical
Parental Pregnancy or Bonding
Family Care
Military, Military Exigency or Caregiver
Job Abandonment
If for any reason you do not show up for work, and fail to contact your manager, Samsara will take measures to contact you. If you are absent for 1 day and do not reach out to your manager or People Ops, your People Partner will reach out to your emergency contact on file. If your absence exceeds 3 consecutive business days without contact, this could be considered job abandonment and may be subject to further disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
Final Note/Reminder: All PTO requests are subject to your manager’s approval as well as team or department staffing needs. PTO should be scheduled and approved in advance in accordance with this policy; however we understand that unscheduled absences may happen in rare instances, in which case reasonable notice must still be provided to management. If the frequency of unscheduled absences becomes excessive, corrective action may be taken, up to and including termination.
